Nakheel is the Dubai master developer behind Palm Jumeirah, the palm-shaped reclaimed island whose construction began in 2001. Its portfolio pairs offshore destinations with inland communities: The World, which Nakheel describes as 260 man-made islands; Dubai Islands, a five-island waterfront district off Deira; and neighbourhoods including Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Park, Discovery Gardens and Al Furjan. Its retail arm, Nakheel Malls, operates Ibn Battuta Mall, Dragon Mart and Nakheel Mall. Ownership passed to the Government of Dubai following the company’s 2011 debt restructuring, and in March 2024 Nakheel was incorporated into Dubai Holding alongside Meydan by decree of the Ruler of Dubai. It operates today within Dubai Holding Real Estate and has no shares listed on DFM or ADX. Current delivery centres on Palm Jebel Ali and Dubai Islands.
